| Ok, Tim has been on my case to blog for some time. I suppose you all have wondered what ever happend ...did she have the baby or what? Well, yes, we now have Baby Gideon and everything is fine. I have just procrastinated through this past month and never got anything written. I keep telling Tim, "I want to put his picture on too." Well, I'll try that, but we'll see if I can remember how to do that since it has been so long. I did it. Ok, some things to piont out about the pictures. Notice Philip's farmer wave to Gideon. He leaned over and said, "Hi!" It was so cute. Miriam claimed the baby for sure. As she was leaving she started crying desperately," My baby, my baby, my baby." It was funny and sweet. Elizabeth, she knows what all this is about. She is the big sister! :o)
The Story... My due date came and nothing happened. My next doctors appointment...a couple days later....she said, "Well, we could just induce you in a couple of days. Let me call the hospital and schedule that." I'm thinking yes, we need to do that before this baby is too big to deliver. She came back and said, "The O.B. is too full, they don't want you." Well, I can't remember if she actually said, they don't want you, but that is about what it amounted too. So, I had to come back to the clinic in two days for a stress test. The stress test showed that I was having contractions, so the doctor called over to the hospital....still no luck. Unless I was is full labour they really didn't want me there until Friday, then we could induce. I was pretty disappointed. I hate going to church when I am almost a week overdue...questions are asked and I just want to hide! So, I hid out in the nursery with Philip. :o) We decided that Thursday we would stay over at my mom's house since we had to be at the hospital so early on Friday. Well, I was having some pretty good contractions and my mom suggested that I call the doctor. She sounded all like, yes, get in there and we will get this going. When I got there the nurses were not too excited. I ended up being sent back home. Friday morning we went in, and I was induced. I'll not give all the details, but I will tell about my epidural experience. When the guy put the needle in, I knew something went wrong. Sure enough a while later my left side was completely numb and my right side was all there. It was pretty funny. I could feel the contraction on my right side, but the left side was feeling fine! Tim was laughing...now you have something to blog about. So, then the guy had to come back and give me another dose. It went in alright and started to work. They had me lay down, and then something scary happened. I started to feel dizzy and then it was like I couldn't breathe. I try to act like everything is ok, but I got this panicky feeling. I told the nurse I feel like I can't breathe. They got the oxygen on me and I'm looking at Tim and thinking....Goodbye. I really felt like I was on my way out. They put more fluids into me and that helped get things straightened out. What happened was the extra dose kind of crept up into my chest and that was why my blood pressure dropped and I felt like I couldn't breathe. After that it was pretty smooth sailing until the pushing...that is always scary for me. But he came out just fine. :o) All 10 pounds of him! He had a little problem with his big shoulders, but the doctor took care of that. He has really dark hair, and he still does. He has the most hair out of all of my babies. The rest were kinda baldies. :o) He had long fingernails right away. He was born on May 25th. His full name is Gideon Paul Riley. So, now we are home and pretty well adjusted to life with 4 kids. The kids just love Gideon. The girls always want to hold him. Philip is nice and gentle for a couple minuted...maybe seconds...and then he just wants Gideon to hurry up and wrestle with him. :o) It's so funny because they sit next to each other in the car and Philip is a blanket stealer! He's not as bad as he was at first. The other thing he steals is the nukky (pacifier). He will take it suck on it and then kindly return it to the baby. Thanks Philip! :o) We just took a family picture a couple weeks ago, so I'll put that on here soon. Otherwise...we had a great 4th of July week. It seems like we have been celebrating all week long. We went over to mom and dad's Tuesday night, planning to shoot off our fireworks then. It ended up raining, so we still stayed late. They guys were playing video games and Lydia and I sang with Dad and some of the kids...patriotic songs. Then we turned to some other songs and mom and Sarah joined us. It was so much fun. The kids were all playing with their cousins. Then on the 4th we had a picnic with our church family. Yesterday, Tim got off work early and we went to the farm to shoot off the fireworks that we didn't get to earlier in the week. It was a beautiful night. We were just getting ready to eat supper, when we hear this plane circling the farm. It was Joel Wyttenbach, a friend that we grew up with. He had told Jason that he would fly over and give Casey a ride sometime. We all ran up to the hay field and watched him land his plane. The field was a little short, he said. We weren't sure if he could get up again, but he had no problem. The rest of the kids ended up going with Tim, Jason, and Lydia in the van to meet Joel and Casey at the little airport there. They all got to ride in the plane. Sarah and I stayed home with the babies and Mom and Dad. After everyone got home they ate supper and then we went out to shoot off the fireworks. My mom and Dad's farm is below some bluffs off in the distance. People were shooting off fireworks in about three different areas, and then we had our little display. It was really nice. Gideon was ok through it all too. The cows got a little excited, but we didn't have to chase them, so that was a good thing. I would say I love doing fireworks in a smaller group setting...especially with my family. :o) Happy Fourth of July Everyone. Don't forget to pray for our country and our troops. We have a responsibility to be praying, and to encourage each other to do their part in this great land that God has blessed us with. |
